Flex-e-card is the UK leader in gift card schemes for shopping centers. Now operating in Ireland, Poland, Italy and Dubai, Flex-e-card has gone from strength to strength.


Flex-e-card approached Thought to:

  • Develop an ecommerce based system for Flex-e-card customers to purchase gift cards
  • With over 70 retailers, we required a solution which allowed easy management for over 70 UK shopping centers websites and gift schemes
  • We needed a system which could work worldwide for expansion into Italy, Poland, Ireland and other countries.

Our solution

The first port of call was to take a look at competitors in the market. At the time, this market was not well established online, so little could be learnt from other companies.

Many hours were spent with UX designers to create a workflow which was both flexible and easy to use for end users. The UI allowed for users to click and collect or deliver cards. For delivery we allowed multiple shipments for those ordering for family members in different locations. We utilised Mr CMS for the core CMS which allows us to deliver the multisite functionality Flex-e-card required, and also put the foundations in place for site translations for Poland and other subsidiaries

Just wanted to let you and the team at Thought know how things are going in terms of sales performance as I've just sent the Q1 sales report on to the Directors. As we launched the site at Christmas it was tricky to do a like-for-like comparison as there are all kinds of seasonal variations that affect it, so this is the first real opportunity to do a true like-for-like comparison.

YTD, the website is up 41.34% versus Q1 last year, and that figure doesn't include unredeemed click & collect (my sales report only counts cards loaded). In particular, we have +50% year on year web sales for clients like Westfield and Hammerson – this is a fantastic piece of news to report to them."
